True Detective - time is a flat circle

LWC is looking forward to the release of the DVD and Blu Ray of the first series of the US TV series True Detective on 9 June. The first series of True Detective was up there with the Wire and the Sopranos as an example of how brilliant TV can be and why so many of us are binge viewing box sets. Sure, we recognise the flaws (the rushed conclusion to solving the crimes was particularly disappointing) but there's also so much that is wonderful and worth celebrating. It's a shame that the characters of Hart and Cohle won't reappear in future series of TD, but the DVD/Blu Ray offers the opportunity to revisit some of those electric scenes between the unlikeliest and oddest of couples.

A key reason for the success of TD is the haunting and brooding soundtrack selected by T Bone Burnett. Classic tracks from the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Captain Beefheart and the Handsome Family bring the story to life as much as the superb cinematography, script and performances. Have a listen to our favourite track, the Angry River by the Hat, which brings the 1st series to a close, and then go and buy the DVD/Blu Ray/download on the 9th. You won't regret it.
